How to hire a bodyguard in Brazil
Planning and concierge assistance are included within an agreed transport and/or protection engagement.
Start with the job you need done. Help planning the visit, transport with a driver and personal protection are different services. If you need protection, identify who will deliver it, check official evidence and compare proposals on the same scope. A job title, a firearm or a high price does not replace those checks.

1. Define what you want to receive
A leisure or business visit starts with interests, destinations and commitments. Separate help deciding and arranging from help during the visit. Identify accessibility, language and comfort needs too. If you have particular protection concerns, discuss them professionally instead of choosing a team from a generic risk label.
2. Distinguish the roles

Law 14,967/2024 addresses private security with or without firearms and requires prior Federal Police authorization. Calling someone an “unarmed escort” does not establish an exemption. Classification depends on the actual service.
3. Check the provider and professionals
Ask for the executing protection provider’s legal name and CNPJ, authorized activity and territory, and the corresponding current evidence. Start with the Federal Police private-security section. A CNPJ identifies the company; it does not alone establish authorization for personal protection.
The Federal Police provides pages for professional-status consultation and identity-card authenticity. Agree how assigned-professional checks will be confirmed before service through a private channel, with only the necessary information shared. Do not publish documents or personal details in reviews or forums.
4. Ask eight questions about the proposal
- Who is the contracting party, and who performs each service? Which evidence covers the activity and location?
- How and when will assigned-professional evidence be checked? What happens if something remains unresolved?
- Which language and accessibility requirements will be confirmed for assigned personnel?
- Which vehicle is included? Does the proposal cover capacity, luggage, special requirements and substitutions?
- What are the contracted hours? How are waiting, additional hours and schedule changes handled?
- What is included in the price and charged separately? Who pays bookings and third-party expenses?
- What are the change, cancellation, refund and supplier-unavailability terms?
- Who is your coordination contact, and what are each party’s responsibility limits?
Ask for written answers. If two quotes describe different hours, vehicles or responsibilities, they do not yet represent the same service. One contact can simplify coordination, but it does not erase the duties of the regulated-service provider.
5. Compare cost through scope
Compare service periods, vehicles, included personnel, taxes, third-party expenses and extension rules. A low or high price alone does not prove illegality or quality. Ask for differences and exclusions to be explained; do not read a day-rate example as continuous availability.

6. Confirm responsibilities before accepting
The proposal and agreement should record included items, responsible parties, outstanding evidence, payment terms and changes. Availability, assigned personnel and confirmation timing need to be defined for your visit. Urgency does not replace verification; a requested date is not a service confirmation.

Common hiring questions
Do I need a bodyguard to travel to Brazil?
An internet search or national advisory does not determine the answer for every visit. Discuss specific requirements. Planning and transport may address needs distinct from personal protection; there is no automatic team recommendation.
Is a driver also a personal-protection professional?
Do not assume that role from the title. Confirm the contracted job and the corresponding qualifications and responsibilities. If the proposal includes personal protection, identify who performs it and the appropriate evidence.
Can I request protection for just one day?
You can request a defined service window. Acceptance, availability, minimum scope, hours and terms are confirmed in the proposal; a day request does not mean uninterrupted coverage.
How can I hire help without speaking Portuguese?
State the language needed in the request and confirm the capability of the professionals actually assigned. The website’s or salesperson’s language does not establish the language of personnel accompanying you.
How much does a bodyguard cost in Brazil?

Are a CNPJ or police experience enough to verify the provider?
